What plugin is recommended for multiple variation images

As I search around it is clear that there are only 2 plugins to consider:
1. WooCommerce Additional Variation Images
2. Smart Variations Images
both for about the same price for premium versions. Smart Variations Images has free version with limited options.
I have tried the free version of Smart Variations Images and it work nice more or less. I just want the thumbnails to appear left (or right in RTL) and not bottom and prefer using the theme default zoom and not the annoying magnifying glass.
Which one of them is better?
Would this theme would ever introduce such a feature?
When having variation, we don’t need the thumbnail of all variations around. only other images of the same variation.

Both of these two plugins replace our default gallery with their own and it is not possible to use our theme features like thumbnails position, zoom and other. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for this but we will consider building this feature inside our theme core.
