The option for the automatic update was added recently, so this time you will have to update the theme manually. All the next updates will be automatic.

You will run no risks having activated automatic update.

The automatic update provides an opportunity to update your theme easily and safety. You will get a notification on email as well as see them on Dashboard > Updates http://prntscr.com/kyi0gf

You can update the plugins and theme in the admin area. Appearance > Theme to update the theme, and Appearance > Install Plugins – to update plugins related to the theme.
