Update the theme

This guide explains how to update WoodMart through the WordPress dashboard or by uploading a new theme package manually.

Before you update

  • Create a backup of your website files and database.
  • Make sure that any file-based customizations are stored in a child theme.
  • Plan to update Woodmart Core and other required plugins after updating the theme.
Warning
Updating WoodMart replaces the files in the parent theme. Any code or template changes made directly in those files will be lost. Theme Settings, Custom CSS saved in the database, page content, and child-theme files are preserved.

Update WoodMart through WordPress

After activating your WoodMart license, WordPress can check for new theme versions and install them directly from the dashboard.

Activate your theme license

Navigate to Dashboard -> WoodMart -> Theme License, enter your purchase code, accept the data-processing agreement, and activate the license.

How to find your purchase code

  1. Sign in to your Envato Market account.
  2. Open the account menu and select Downloads.
  3. Find WoodMart and open the download options.
  4. Download the License certificate & purchase code as a PDF or text file.

Install the theme update

  1. Navigate to Appearance -> Themes.
  2. Locate WoodMart and open the theme details.
  3. When a new version is available, click Update now and wait until WordPress completes the update.

Update required plugins

After updating WoodMart, navigate to WoodMart -> Plugins and update Woodmart Core and any other required plugins. Keeping the theme and its required plugins on compatible versions helps prevent errors and missing functionality.

Update WoodMart manually

You can upload the latest WoodMart package through WordPress if the dashboard update is unavailable.

  1. Download the latest WoodMart package from your ThemeForest account and locate the installable woodmart.zip file.
  2. Navigate to Appearance -> Themes -> Add New Theme.
  3. Click Upload Theme, select woodmart.zip, and click Install Now.
  4. Review the current and uploaded theme versions, then click Replace current with uploaded.
  5. Navigate to WoodMart -> Plugins and update Woodmart Core and other required plugins.

How to fix the BAD_FORMAT error

The following error may appear when you try to update WoodMart:

Note
This error can appear after migrating a website when the license activation is no longer synchronized with the current domain. Before moving a website to another domain, deactivate the WoodMart license on the original domain and activate it again after the migration.

To refresh the license activation and retry the update:

  1. Navigate to Dashboard -> WoodMart -> Theme License and deactivate the license if it is active.
  2. Navigate to Dashboard -> Updates and click Check Again.
  3. Return to WoodMart -> Theme License and activate the theme with your purchase code.
  4. Retry the update from Appearance -> Themes or Dashboard -> Updates.
