creating a child theme from a parent theme

Hi,
Its my first time to use wordpress and also woodmart entirely. So when i started using woodmart theme i directly did customization to the parent theme, now i want to do updates and i understand that i will loose all the customization(s). Am looking for a way of creating a child theme from the parent theme but i dont know how i can do it.
Kindly help.

I already uploaded the theme and the parent theme is the one which is active so i want to know how i can create a child theme from the active parent theme thus do updates afterwards without loosing the changes made to the theme.
