Structured Data – Product Description

Hope you are well.

Is there anyway to default the Product description Structured Data (schema markup) so that it only uses text in the tab descriptions, not from ‘Product short description’? At the moment when there is no text added to the ‘Product short description’ it will show the description in the tabbed area as the Product description structured data, however when I add text to the ‘Product short description’ it will then show this text instead. Is it possible to update the Product description structured data so it only shows the text from the tabbed description area, not from the short description area?

You need to create a template in WP Bakery page builder and then insert it in the Product page main description and only change the text as per your needs.

I am not sure I fully understand what you mean by “You need to create a template in WP Bakery page builder”. What type of template are you suggesting to create to insert in the Product page main description?

Alternatively, I can see via Theme Settings > Product Page I can “Place any text, HTML or shortcode – Before “Add to cart button” text area”. This doesn’t appear to update/replace the structured data Product description when I add in some text. However, is there a way to do this for only selected products only? As I do not want to apply it to all products.

As another alternative, the reason we want to add text to the short description is to show one of the product attributes (e.g. the size of the product). Is there a way to show a single product attribute (not all the product attributes) within the short description area (or above the “Add to cart button”) when there are no variations for that attribute?

Hello,

Showing attributes is configured globally, it means that you cannot set something for one product and something another for others.

Our theme suggests the option “Show attributes table after short description” so if a single product has any attribute and value it will be shown in the short descriptions, like this http://prntscr.com/ox7byv

As you see this product has brand and size attributes and both of them are presented, it is not possible to show the size, for example, and hide the brand and this option will be effective for all the products which have attributes.

This option can be enabled in the Theme Settings > Product page > Hide/Show elements.

Based on this, as we do not want to show all attributes in this area (before “Add to cart button” text area), I am trying to find a solution to add details to the Products page short description, however not to have the short description then to overwrite/replace the description for the structured data Product description text. I have added a HTML block which include the text we want in the short description area for products. Is there anyway we can mark this so it is not used as the Product structured data description text?

When you add an HTML block to the area before Add to cart, you will have one and the same text for all products. Is it your purpose?

I do not understand what you mean saying “Is there any way we can mark this so it is not used as the Product structured data description text?”

Please have a look at the screen: https://gyazo.com/4471e35302e2395abcb19442863e29e7 you see that attributes/content before Add to cart buttons are not included in the short description block. Moreover, there is the option to disable short description in the product page.

Yes it will be fine to have the same text for all products in the short description (or the products we add the HTML block to).

Thank you for letting me know. Apologies, it is the ‘product-details_short-description’ text area that we do not want to be used for the structured data (schema mark up) Product description.

If you add the content by means of HTML block in the area before Add to cart, it would not be in the structure of the short description.

The examples in the previous screenshots are showing a Product which uses a HTML block in the short description area for that Product.

To confirm, we do not want the same text for all products, but instead only a selection of products. Therefore the reason the HTML block is added to the short description for Products we want to show this text, not via Theme Settings > Product Page > “Place any text, HTML or shortcode – Before “Add to cart button” text area”

The default Woocommerce does not allow to hide the short description and show a text individually for each or a group of the product.

Our theme has the option to hide the short description, besides our theme has the option to add the content to the product which is global and the same for all the products.

If it is not acceptable, you will have to find a plugin.
