markusParticipantHi there,
perhaps that’s more an advanced question. I need to extend the products and product archives (category pages) with custom fields. Those might be text fields, textareas, repeater fields or even flexible content by ACF.
I am trying to figure out what’s the best approach here, and I figured there are many options overall.
Basically, it goes back to two approaches:
1) Set up the design with the WoodMart theme settings and presets + work a lot with webhooks and PHP to add the custom fields to the single product and product archive templates
2) Just forget about the web hooks and forget about the (amazingly built-in) designs from WoodMart and re-build the design/layout for single product and product archive templates myself with the built-in Layout Builder
a) What do you think about those two approaches, am I missing something here?
b) Will I be able to re-build everything myself with the Layout Builder? I like your pre-made designs. I don’t want to loose features when I build it myself with the WoodMart Layout Builder (e.g. some mobile features, or hover features, or filter features, etc)
c) Can I expect worse performance when I build the single product template with the Layout Builder myself (perhaps your built-in templates are hand-coded while the layout-builder generated templates are not??)I think everything should be clear and I hope you can give me valuable input and feedback to my questions
best regards

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
1. As soon as you have added one of our designs, you can delete all the elements and add yours as per your template.
2. The performance would be the same, at the same time, if you add sliders or galleries or other components that require more loading time, the performance may differ.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.

markusParticipantHey Elise,
Thanks a lot for your reply. To clarify (I am not sure if we talk about the exact same thing), I meant the layouts you provide out of the box in WoodMart e.g. the look of the category archive page, the look of the product detail page.
There is the Layout Bilder, but I don’t have to use it at all. Instead I could just use WoodMart as is and only change some settings in the Theme settings. For customization, I could add custom fields with webhooks in functions.php. E.g. add a custom field below the price in the product detailed page.
https://xtemos.com/docs-topic/woodmart-woocommerce-layout-builder/But then I learned about the Layout Builder. I see you also have predefined layouts in the Layout Builder.
That’s my question: If I pick the Layout Builder will I be able to get all the same features that come with WoodMart default usage (when I use WoodMart without Layout Builder)?
With features I mean things like variation swatches, brand attributes, buy now button, mobile/responsive features, hover features, etc.
My rationale behind this: If I just want to do very small customizations, e.g. just add a single custom text field below the price, I could just use web hooks. However, if I want to do more customizations, it’s better to just design my own layout with the Layout Builder.
Thanks again for you help!

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
Sorry for the delay.
Yes, you will be able to use variation swatches, brands, and other WoodMart functionality even though you do not use the Woocommerce layout builder.
We have very detailed manuals describing all the functionality. If you need to configure swatches, please find this manual: https://xtemos.com/docs-topic/variable-products-and-swatches/
If you need to configure the brands, you can find instructions here: https://xtemos.com/docs-topic/product-brands/
Please let us know if you need any further help.
Best Regards

markusParticipantThanks again Elise… I still think we have a small misunderstanding. I don’t know anymore how I should explain it better. Sorry.
I do want to use the Layout Builder. I want to use it instead of the default WoodMart layout. This way I can add custom fields easily without having to deal with any webhooks. If I don’t use the Layout Builder and want to show a custom field in the product single page I must add it via webhook. This would be fine for a single field but not so much for more advanced customizations (e.g. ACF repeater)
You confirmed that all features work WITHOUT the Layout Builder. From the very beginning I try to figure out if all features work WITH the Layout Builder.
I am sure you know the answer, it just seems that language and communication is an issue here.
If I play around with the theme a few hours I might figure it out myself.
It would be just easier to get a clear answer, to know what I need to take care of when planning and concepting the new webshop based on WoodMart theme.
I hope with all I said now and previously it’s finally clear what my actual question is
Thanks a lot and sorry if I communicated something in a way that was not clear
Best regards

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
You can build a template using the ready widget, you can locate them in any order in any place, at the same time there are no options to customize them, change the functionality or add any fields.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
Best Regards
