Installation process

Learn how to install the WoodMart theme through the WordPress Admin panel. This user-friendly method is the quickest and most straightforward way to get your theme up and running. Follow these steps to install and set up the WoodMart theme on your website.

Requirements
Before starting, ensure WordPress is already installed on your server. For the best experience, we recommend using a fresh WordPress installation to easily import clean demo content without conflicts. For detailed system requirements and compatibility information, please refer to our requirements guide

Upload through the WordPress dashboard

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin – Go to yourdomain.com/wp-admin and enter your credentials.
  2. Theme upload – Navigate to Appearance -> Themes -> Add New -> Upload Theme.
  3. Select your theme file – Click “Choose File” and select the woodmart.zip file from your computer.
  4. Install the theme – Click “Install Now” and wait for the upload to complete.
  5. Activate your theme – Once installed, click “Activate” to make WoodMart your active theme.
Important
Make sure you’re uploading the correct woodmart.zip file that contains the theme files directly (not a ZIP file with another ZIP file inside). If you downloaded a package with multiple files, look for the main theme ZIP file.

Your WoodMart theme has been installed and is ready for setup.

Once you activate the theme, you’ll be redirected to the WoodMart welcome screen. This setup wizard will guide you through the initial configuration. Simply click “Let’s start” to begin setting up your website with the recommended settings.

Setup wizard walkthrough

After successfully installing and activating the WoodMart theme, you’ll see the setup wizard with six configuration steps: “Activation”, “Child theme”, “Page builder”, “Plugins”, “Prebuilt websites”, and “Done”.

Step 1. License activation

The first step requires activating your theme license to enable automatic updates. Enter your purchase code in the provided field, accept the terms, and click “Activate theme” to unlock all premium features.

  • Development Domain checkbox checked = License activated for staging website.
  • Development Domain checkbox unchecked = License activated for live website.
License usage
Your WoodMart license can be activated on two domains for the same site – one for staging/testing and one for your live website. This ensures you can test updates and changes safely before applying them to your live site. Multiple different sites require separate licenses for each site.

Finding your purchase code:

  1. Log into your Envato Market account
  2. Hover over your username at the top of the screen
  3. Click “Downloads” from the drop-down menu
  4. Click ‘Download’ next to the item for which you need the purchase code.
  5. Click “License certificate & purchase code” (available as PDF or text file)

Step 2. Child theme

The second step involves installing a child theme, which is essential for safe customization of your WoodMart theme. A child theme acts as a protective layer that preserves all your customizations when the parent theme receives updates.

The setup wizard makes this process simple – just click “Install child theme” and the system automatically creates and activates a child theme.

For more detailed information about child themes and their applications, visit the WordPress Codex Child Themes guide.

Step 3. Page builder

The third step requires selecting your preferred page builder for creating and editing your website content. WoodMart offers three powerful options to choose from:

  • Elementor – The world’s leading drag-and-drop WordPress website builder with intuitive visual editing.
  • Gutenberg – WordPress’s native block-based content editor, built into WordPress core.
  • WPBakery – A popular page builder plugin with frontend and backend editing capabilities.

Important
  • WoodMart works with only one page builder at a time – you cannot use multiple builders simultaneously
  • This choice is permanent – switching between builders after setup requires rebuilding your content from scratch
  • All pre-built website templates are specifically designed for your selected page builder

Consider your experience level, design preferences, and long-term needs before selecting. Once you’ve made your decision, click on your preferred option and then “Continue” to proceed with the setup.

Step 4. Plugins activation

The fourth step involves installing essential plugins that power your WoodMart website’s functionality.

Essential plugins (required):

  • WoodMart Core – The main functionality plugin for your theme (marked as “Required”)
  • WooCommerce – Enables e-commerce functionality for selling products online
  • Your chosen page builder – Either Elementor, WPBakery (based on your Step 3 selection). If you choose Gutenberg, you will not see it as a plugin, as WordPress includes this builder by default.

Additional recommended plugins (optional):

  • Contact Form 7 – Creates contact forms for customer inquiries
  • MailChimp for WordPress – Connects your website to email marketing services
  • Safe SVG – Allows you to safely upload SVG image files
Note
The essential plugins ensure your theme works properly, while additional plugins provide extra features. You can always remove unnecessary plugins later if you don’t need their functionality.

For beginners, we recommend installing all plugins to get the full WoodMart experience.

Step 5. Prebuilt websites

The fifth step lets you choose from professionally designed website templates to jumpstart your project. These are complete websites with pages, content, images, and styling already set up for different business types. Each template is specifically designed for different business needs and comes with relevant content and layouts.

Simply click “Import” on your chosen template to install it

Step 6. Everything is ready

Congratulations! You’ve successfully completed the WoodMart theme installation and setup process. The checkmark indicates that your website is now fully configured and ready to use.

Troubleshooting common issues

This section covers the most frequently encountered problems during WoodMart theme installation and setup, along with step-by-step solutions to resolve them quickly.

“File size too large” error

This error occurs when the WoodMart theme file exceeds your server’s maximum upload limit. WordPress themes, especially feature-rich ones like WoodMart, can be larger than the default upload restrictions set by many hosting providers.

Contact your hosting provider to increase the upload limits for your account. Most hosting providers can quickly adjust these settings for you. Alternatively, you can ask your hosting support team to increase the following PHP settings:

upload_max_filesize
post_max_size
max_execution_time

For detailed instructions on how to resolve upload limit issues, please refer to the troubleshooting guide

If you cannot increase the upload limits, consider using the FTP installation method, which bypasses the WordPress upload restrictions entirely.

“Purchase code invalid” error
  • Double-check that you copied the entire code
  • Make sure you’re using the WoodMart purchase code (not another theme)
  • Verify the code from your Envato downloads page
Demo content not importing
  • Ensure all required plugins are installed first
  • Check that your hosting has enough memory and execution time
  • Contact our support team for further solutions.
