Email marketing consent

The “Email marketing consent” option gives customers complete control over their communication preferences, ensuring a more transparent and user-friendly experience. Initially, a customer can agree to subscriptions with a single checkbox during registration. Afterward, they can easily change their preferences in the Account details section of their My account page. Here, they can either make a general change or more flexibly enable or disable specific types of subscriptions, such as those for back-in-stock notifications or review reminders. By providing this granular control, the feature helps stores comply with privacy regulations and build trust with customers by sending only the most relevant communications.

You can enable the “Email marketing consent” option by going to Theme Settings → Shop → Email marketing consent. Next to it is a sub-option, “Allow managing individual email subscriptions”, which lets registered users toggle each type of subscription separately on the My Account → Account details page.

Once the option is enabled, unregistered users will have the opportunity to subscribe to marketing emails using an optional checkbox that will appear on the registration form and on the checkout page when placing an order without being logged in.

Registered users, in turn, will receive a special subscription management option located on the My Account → Account details page. In this area, they can either fully subscribe to or unsubscribe from all mailings, or selectively choose only the ones they need.

It is worth noting that the availability of each possible subscription depends on whether the corresponding option is enabled in Theme Settings and whether that specific email is enabled in the email template settings under WooCommerce → Settings → Email. The following options are available to users for selecting subscriptions:

  • Wishlist: product back in stock. This email is sent to customers when an item of their wishlist is back in stock.
  • Wishlist: on sale item. This email is sent to customers when an item of their wishlist is on sale
  • Wishlist: promotional. This email is sent to the customer that has a product on his wishlist. You can send these emails via Dashboard -> Products -> Wishlists -> Popular products -> Create promotion.
  • Abandoned cart. This email reminds customers about their incomplete purchases, encouraging them to complete their orders.
  • Review reminder. This email is sent to customers as a reminder to leave a review for their recent purchase.
